Personnel Security & Insider Threat Vulnerability Assessment
Insider threats, whether malicious, negligent or the result of compromise, pose a unique and growing risk for organisations that manage sensitive assets. Our Personnel Security & Insider Threat Vulnerability Assessment applies the MPS risk methodology and scenario modelling tools to map critical assets, assess people access pathways, and recommend proportionate mitigations that reflect accepted risk principles and contemporary foreign interference concerns.
As part of the assessment we combine asset and people audits with IT and incident data, then test plausible insider scenarios to reveal where controls are weakest and where early detection would most reduce harm.
We begin by auditing your environment to establish a clear baseline. That audit captures the physical and digital assets that matter to your mission, we’ll document who has access to them, and review available logs and incident history to show what has already gone wrong or come close. This evidence base is complemented by cross functional workshops that bring together security, IT, HR, legal, fraud and business managers. Those workshops build a shared map of insider pathways and ensure scenarios consider both digital and nondigital methods of exploitation.
We explicitly include geographic, timing and trigger analysis so risk assessments reflect where threats might originate and when they are most likely to materialise, such as during periods of political instability, major events or organisational change.
At the individual level, the assessment uses the Critical Pathway to Insider Risk (CPIR) Index to identify personal and contextual factors that increase the likelihood an individual might unintentionally or deliberately harm the organisation.
The CPIR framework, widely used in Australian practice, helps us move beyond generic profiles and tailor interventions to roles and people whose access or behaviour warrants closer attention. Where appropriate and proportionate, we recommend targeted screening, enhanced supervision, reassignment, or other treatment measures that respect privacy and natural justice while reducing risk.
The end product is an executive grade risk brief and a prioritised vulnerability report. You will receive an MPS style Insider Threat Risk Register populated with realistic scenarios, a mapped set of critical assets and critical workers, and a Geopolitical Threat Actor assessment that links external motivations to your likely attack vectors.
Each finding is accompanied by a recommended mitigation roadmap that sequences organisational, technical and people controls according to impact and likelihood. For organisations wanting faster options, we offer a Rapid Readiness Review that delivers an evidence based snapshot in three days, for deeper assurance, our full vulnerability assessment runs over several weeks and includes a CPIR screening plan and implementation priorities.
This assessment is designed for entities operating critical infrastructure, government contractors with personnel security obligations, and any organisation that needs to understand how staff, vendors and contractors could create exploitable pathways to sensitive information or systems.
Success is measured by clearer prioritisation of insider risks, stronger alignment between security, HR and business units, and boardready reporting that demonstrates due diligence and a pragmatic plan to harden critical roles and improve detection and response capabilities.
